At AtlasEdge, we are committed to creating a sustainable future for data centres, and we are proud to share the news of our latest achievement: the Green Apple Environment Award. This recognition is a testament to our dedication to sustainability and the impact of our partnership with Northshore. We sat down with Susan Ashton and Wendy Porter from the AtlasEdge sustainability team to learn more about this exciting milestone.
Q: What trophy have you won today?
We are thrilled to have won the Green Apple Environment Award for our project, Sustainable Future for Data Centres.
Q: What was the nature of your winning project?
AtlasEdge is a pan-European colocation data centre provider, formed just three years ago. From the very beginning, sustainability has been one of our core strategies.
This project, in collaboration with our sustainability partners at Northshore, focused on developing a comprehensive program for measuring, tracking, and reducing environmental impact. This program is designed not only to benefit AtlasEdge customers but also to contribute positively to the wider community.
One standout achievement has been the reduction of 65 tons of carbon emissions within the first few months of 2024, showcasing the immediate results of these efforts. Our commitment to sustainability remains unwavering, and we’re excited to continue driving progress in this critical area.
Q: What does it mean to you and your company to receive this international recognition?
Winning the Green Apple Environment Award is incredibly important to us. It’s a powerful validation of the hard work we’ve invested in sustainability, particularly through our partnership with Northshore.
This recognition also highlights the tangible impact of our initiatives. Reducing 65 tons of carbon emissions in just a few months is a milestone that demonstrates the potential of sustainable practices in the data centre industry. Looking ahead, this award encourages us to keep innovating and expanding our long-term strategies for environmental stewardship.
Q: Will you be entering again?
Absolutely. This is just the beginning of our journey. We remain fully committed to reducing our environmental impact, and we’ll continue to lead discussions within the industry on how we can collectively work toward climate neutrality.
Q: Why is sustainability so critical for the data centre industry?
The data centre industry is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the world, and with that growth comes a significant environmental footprint. Cooling systems, energy use, and infrastructure development can contribute to high carbon emissions if not managed sustainably.
At AtlasEdge, we believe it’s our responsibility to minimize this impact. By implementing energy-efficient technologies, renewable energy sources, and sustainable cooling solutions, we aim to set a benchmark for the industry and inspire others to follow suit.
Q: What’s next for AtlasEdge in terms of sustainability?
Our next steps involve scaling the strategies that have already shown success while continuing to innovate. We’re focusing on expanding our use of renewable energy, exploring cutting-edge cooling technologies, and engaging in industry-wide discussions to drive change.
We also plan to work closely with our customers and partners to align our goals and collectively reduce the environmental impact of data centres across Europe. The Green Apple Environment Award is a milestone, but the journey toward sustainability is ongoing—and we’re just getting started.
A Message of Thanks
We couldn’t have achieved this without the support of our customers, partners, and employees. Your belief in our mission fuels our drive to innovate and lead in sustainability. Together, we’re building a brighter, greener future for the data centre industry.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to work toward our sustainability goals and strive for new heights of excellence!
