Datacenter One (“DC1”), the Stuttgart-headquartered provider of colocation and Colo Connect services acquired by AtlasEdge in February 2023, today announces the opening of a brand new Hamburg data centre, HAM1.
With the opening of HAM1, DC1 continues its rapid success story of developing regional data centres to serve customers throughout Germany, one of Europe’s fastest growing markets for localised digital infrastructure.
The facility is the first opened by DC1 since becoming part of the AtlasEdge group, a leading pan-European Edge data centre provider. This transaction transformed AtlasEdge into Germany’s leading distributed platform, instantly expanding its presence in Europe’s largest economic powerhouse.
Located in Ahrensburg, a town northeast of Hamburg, HAM1 will complement AtlasEdge’s existing carrier neutral data centre in Hamburg and serve soaring customer demand for regional infrastructure deployments closer to end users. The first customers have already moved into the new site, reinforcing the growing reputation of Germany’s second-largest city, which is home to established technology companies as well as being one of Europe’s most influential startup hubs.
Like sites previously developed by DC1, HAM1 was built using a modular construction method that is based on a core sustainable and time-saving approach, with highly optimised use of resources. Sustainability is a priority during construction, as well as during operation and customer-driven expansion. Once fully expanded, HAM1 will have a capacity of ~10,000 sqm and up to 20 MW.
HAM1 at a glance:
- 2N power supply to each individual rack
- Decentralised cooling for each data centre room with customer-specific output per sqm
- High energy efficiency with a PUE <1.3
- Runs on 100% renewable energy
- Full certification, with ISO 27001 BSI basic protection and EN 50600 Level 3 as well as ISO 9001
We are witnessing incredible demand in northern Germany for highly available, certified, and future-proof data centre space. This new facility not only enables us to expand our offering for our customers in northern Germany by including dual-site products, but also takes our total number of sites in the country to seven. With AtlasEdge’s support, we expect to grow this presence further, and we have other new sites currently under development, with the next one to be built in Stuttgart.”
Wolfgang Kaufmann, CEO, Datacenter One
This is a best-in-class facility which meets rising demand for ready-to-sell capacity in and around Hamburg. Its exceptional design and strong sustainability credentials, alongside its highly strategic location, draws on the combined expertise of both the Datacenter One and wider AtlasEdge teams. We have long identified Germany as a market characterised by exceptionally strong customer demand across multiple metros, and this new site consolidates our presence in Europe’s largest digital economy.”
Giuliano Di Vitantonio, CEO, AtlasEdge
