Stuttgart-based data centre provider impresses analysts with secure colocation suite & steadfast focus on sustainability.
Datacenter One (DC1), a specialist in data centre development, colocation and connectivity and an AtlasEdge company, has once again been named a Leader in Colocation Services for Large Accounts in the ISG Provider Lens Quadrant™ Report. DC1’s secure connectivity suite and ongoing sustainability achievements landed it in the ISG rankings for the third year in a row.
“As an experienced partner, Datacenter One offers extensive, excellent colocation services that are highly valued by companies and the public sector,” says lead analyst and study author Wolfgang Heinhaus. In addition to Datacenter One’s wide range of colocation solutions that are individually tailored to customer needs, the company’s secure and high-performance connectivity services as well as further developments in the area of sustainability were highlighted as particular strengths.
From rising star to series leader
Datacenter One’s success story with ISG Provider Lens™ continues with this year’s award. The colocation provider was named a Rising Star in 2019, followed by two placements as a Leader in Colocation Services for Large Accounts in 2022 and 2023.
Wolfgang Kaufmann, CEO of Datacenter One, is particularly pleased that Datacenter One has earned this honor for the third year in a row. “This report recognizes our ongoing commitment to continuously developing our solutions and providing our customers with future-proof, flexible and innovative solutions that also contribute to their sustainability initiatives.”
DC1’s integration into the AtlasEdge family at the beginning of 2023 will further strengthen the company’s position as one of the top providers in the German-speaking region, according to Kaufmann. “Together with AtlasEdge, we will continue to expand our presence and services in Germany to build the leading edge platform in Europe.”
The market research study “Private/Hybrid Cloud – Data Center Services” analyzes service providers on the basis of a multi-stage market research and analysis process and positions them using the ISG Research methodology. The Large Accounts quadrant evaluates vendors that offer standardized data centre operations as a colocation service for midsize and large enterprise customers. This includes providing a common access point for different hosting providers, system houses, network operators, telecommunications providers and end users. Colocation services score above all with their sophisticated configuration options, high bandwidths at affordable costs and low latency times, even outside metropolitan areas.
Further developments in sustainability
Datacenter One’s focus on sustainability had a significant role to play in this award win. Datacenter One is a member of the Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact, which supports Europe’s climate goals by implementing various measures: improving energy efficiency, using clean energy, saving water, reusing server equipment and using waste heat. DC1 is already ahead of some of these goals, by operating its data centres with 100% green electricity, achieving and further improving its PUE value of <1.3, and using waste heat for its own offices.
The company’s sustainability commitment is also evident in the latest site opening in the Hamburg region. The HAM1 data centre, which went into operation in Ahrensburg at the beginning of 2024, is the first data centre opened by DC1 as part of the AtlasEdge Group. Like the data centres in Leverkusen and Düsseldorf, which were previously developed and built by DC1, HAM1 was also built in a modular design. This construction method is both sustainable and time-saving due to the optimized use of resources. Sustainability is thus already in the foreground during construction, as well as in operation and individual fit-out for customers. The data centre is scalable during ongoing operation and will reach 10,000 square meters and a total capacity of up to 20 megawatts in final expansion.
ISG also saw further strengths in the area of “secure connectivity with Colo Connect.” With the Colo Connect connectivity solution, DC1 offers a wide range of customized connection options to other locations, partners, data centres and hyperscalers. For the fastest possible transmission of large amounts of data, DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) connectivity is offered. As a core service, DC1 offers a wide range of award-winning colocation solutions, tailored to customer needs. If a company’s requirements cannot be met by a DC1 data centre, DC1 can build a new data centre close to the customer, with a requirement of 500 m².
