Sustainability

AtlasEdge was founded with the ambitious goal of creating Europe’s leading data centre platform. We believe that tomorrow’s sustainable digital society requires innovative infrastructure solutions and that is why we focus on placing this infrastructure precisely where it’s needed, ensuring harmony with communities, environments, and resources.

Of course, we know success requires careful planning and continued action. Here’s what that looks like to us here at AtlasEdge:

A sustainable digital society

Vision & approach

AtlasEdge was founded with the ambitious goal of creating Europe’s leading data centre platform. We believe that Edge computing must be part of tomorrow’s sustainable digital society, enabling infrastructure where it’s needed without compromising communities, environments or resources.

At the heart of this vision, we see ourselves playing a leading role in sustainability for the industry by making it the bedrock of our business and our collective future.

Responsibility In Action

Historically, there’s no arguing that data centres have been huge energy users. As critical resources for global data needs, data centers have been charged with not just finding a way to reconcile resource consumption with ESG goals, but to become active stewards of our global environments.

At AtlasEdge, we embrace this challenge and find the opportunity within. We endeavour to be significant contributors to developing knowledge and technology with the ultimate goal of reducing the impact of data centres on the environments we all share.

As part of this process, we seek to address the following criteria to support our sustainability vision:

  • Review & Report
  • Reduce
  • Re-use
  • Recycle
  • Renewables
  • Responsibility

With these as our guide, AtlasEdge has been developing a Sustainability Program Strategy and Execution Plan to drive forward ESG-focused results, ensuring focus is on understanding the baseline and building reporting processes to establish accountability. Measurement, reporting and operational accountability serve as the vital foundation for long-term sustainability efforts, and we see this as the phase from which all innovation and optimization can begin and grow.

A Leading Luminary

To rewrite the story of data centres and sustainability, we believe everyone in this industry can and should aspire to be a trailblazer, meeting the requirements of current industry legislative framework and leading the charge as new standards and requirements shape the future by serving as guides and experts.

Our learning and innovation will be shared with other providers through networking and active, reciprocal relationships with government bodies. AtlasEdge is dedicated to sharing our knowledge through arenas such as TechUK and the Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact. We believe collaboration is at the core of collective success, and we plan to become agents of powerful knowledge sharing and cooperation.

As part of these commitments to sustainability, in December 2022, we signed up to participate in the Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact (CNDCP) and committed to the European Green Deal. This aims to achieve ambitious greenhouse gas reduction targets and make data centres climate neutral by 2030.

We were proud to sign up to the CNDCP within our first year of operation and become part of the drive to reduce emissions and help achieve the ultimate goal of having a ‘climate neutral’ world by 2050.

ESG Reporting

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) are the three components of sustainability that determine our long-term success.

ESG reporting measures how well these elements are integrated into practice, enabling us to monitor progress and improve our sustainability credentials. By evaluating our environmental impact tracking and reporting on our performance across key areas, we ensure we’re staying aware and on track to achieve our commitments.

Here’s an idea of what measurement looks like across the three pillars of ESG:

Environmental

Here we report on energy efficiency, renewable energy procurement, water consumption and regions with high water stress. We also report on greenhouse gas emissions, biodiversity, waste management and our investment in environmental initiatives.

Social

This is all about AtlasEdge’s people and culture, building sustainability not only environmentally but culturally and from the perspective of a strong community. Factors considered here are inclusivity, gender and diversity, employee engagement, customer satisfaction, recruitment practices, data protection and privacy. In the pursuit of new green horizons, diverse opinions, experiences and perspectives serve to move us all forward and drive progressive conversation, making this a key element in our long-term and short-term commitments.

Governance

Here we consider our internal system of controls, practices, and procedures. This reporting focuses on how the company values of agility, fairness, accountability and thoughtfulness are embedded within the organisation. Factors considered include the company’s leadership, board composition, internal controls, bribery and corruption and whistleblower programs. Transparency and trust must be inherent in all positive change, and remaining committed to excellence in this arena is of the utmost importance both for the sake of our current world and that of the future.

Underpinning our ESG reporting are extensive legal and regulatory requirements, including our ISO14001 environmental standard and the Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact requirements. Above all, we strive to continue meeting and exceeding global goals and mandates even as they change and evolve.
